一、培养目标
本硕士学位点旨在培养能胜任高等学校英语专业、非英语专业各门英语课程教学工作,胜任国家经济建设和外事工作的高级专门人才。本专业培养的硕士生应具有系统而扎实的英语语言基础理论和基础知识,较为广博的相关学科的基础知识,了解国内外本专业及其交叉学科的最新发展,熟练掌握英语听、说、读、写、译等实践技能,掌握英语语言文学基础研究的方法,热爱祖国、热爱社会主义,有纪律、有道德、有理想,有创新思维,有独立分析问题和解决问题的能力。
二、学习年限及学分
全日制攻读硕士学位研究生学习年限一般为三年。
非全日制攻读硕士学位研究生学习年限一般为四年。

五、教学实践
教学实践是培养和检验研究生实践能力的一门重要课程,要求研究生在导师或主讲教师亲自指导下于第五学期参加一学期的教学实践活动,包括教学全过程的各个环节,如讲课、答疑、习题批改、辅导课等。在导师或主讲教师的指导下,学会如何撰写教案,如何授课、辅导、答疑等教学能力。并对研究生教授课程及其它教学实践活动做出公正、客观评价。
六、社会实践及学术活动
社会实践活动是研究生在学期间接触社会,了解社会的重要实践活动,要求研究生在学期间积极参加校、院系组织的各种社会调查活动、导师组织的科研实践活动,如研究生论文选题前的调研等。要求研究生在学期间积极参加学术活动,如参加学术讲座和学术讨论会、定期做读书报告、撰写学位论文开题报告等。按学校规定,研究生在学期间至少正式发表一篇论文,有条件的还要争取在学习期间参加国际学术会议。

研究生学位论文是培养研究生科学研究和创新能力,以及独立分析问题和解决问题能力的重要组成部分。研究生撰写学位论文应达到以下要求:
1.应在导师指导下制定论文工作计划,并经主管部门同意方可进行。
2.论文的选题应在导师的指导下师生共同商定。论文的选题要注重基础理论研究,考虑学科的最新发展,做到学术理论与实用价值相结合。
3.研究生撰写学位论文期间,导师应定期指导、检查学位论文进展情况,共同协商解决难题,注重对学生创新意识和独立科学研究能力的培养。
4.研究生在导师指导下独立完成学位论文的全过程。学位论文要观点正确、概念清楚,研究方法正确、数据可靠、分析严谨,例证翔实,语言规范、准确,有个人独立或创新的见解。
5.论文要用英文撰写。
6.论文答辩。研究生修完培养方案中所规定的各门课程,考试合格,并且学分符合要求后,按学校有关规定进行论文答辩。
八、培养方法
1.首先,在第一学年内完成主要学位课程和本学科的主要基础理论课程,并在导师指导下确定研究方向。然后,导师根据培养方案与研究方向分别定出具体学习计划。
2.研究生各门必修课和选修课的学习应采取灵活多样的教学方法,如导师讲授、共同讨论、自学等,注重培养学生的自学能力。
3.积极提倡研究生参加校内外的学术活动,加强学术交流,定期举办专题学术讲座。充分发挥学生学术上创新意识的培养,注重对学生分析问题和解决问题能力的培养。

Course Description(课程简介):
This course is designed to offer to graduate students a general look at the scientific study of language and its major scope. With a brief introduction to the history of linguistics as the beginning, this course presents some basic theories in the study of theoretical linguistics, such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and so on, followed by some of the applied linguistics. The followings are mainly discussed in this course: features of language; brief history of linguistics; English history; articulatory phonetics; structuralist and generative phonology; brief introduction to semantics and pragmatics; general look at some of the applied linguistics.
This course is given in the first term. It is specially profitable and necessary to those who have taken no undergraduate course of linguistics. With the knowledge gained from this course, students will feel free to go into any specific branch of linguistics and then do their best in their research. It is also a great help to those who will do research work other than linguistics. The main topics are due to be completed within 40 hours.

This is an introductory guide to the literature of translation studies in the past 50 years, giving students a brief survey of the different approaches and models in translation studies before they set out to read the essential works in the field.It covers the following topics:
1. An overall description of the field, based largely on Holmes (1988/2000).
2. Translation theory before the twentieth century concentrates on Cicero, St.Jerome, Luther,Dryden and Schleiermacher.
3. linguistic-oriented theories: "Equivalence and equivalent effect"; Nida"s distinction between "formal equivalence" and "dynamic equivalence", as well as the semantic framework proposed in Nida & Taber (1969); the distinction between semantic and communicative translation put forward by Newmark (1988), and the analysis of different types of equivalence in Koller (1979/89).
4. The translation shift approach;

This course aims at exposing students to various concepts and approaches on foreign language teaching so that students may view foreign language teaching from different angles. The program, though including a brief introduction to different approaches of English teaching in past 100 years, focuses on the study of language learning strategies, learning process and learners" language and other learning problems. Both the tutor and the students will endeavor to explore the nature and the principles of language teaching, especially the communicative teaching approach and the theories behind it as well as its applicability in China"s teaching environment.
As a matter of fact, the program itself will be conducted in the communicative way, so the participants are encouraged to be actively involved in all kinds of teaching and learning activities inside and outside the classroom.
